Beginner’s Improv: Arts, Business and Beyond...

  • Goldsmiths College Richard Hoggart Building, Lewisham Way London SE14 6YZ (map)

“The course was run in exceptionally well. We were all made to feel immediately comfortable, which meant we were able to push through a large amount of exercises at a good pace without feeling intimidated by the more challenging tasks.” Adam, participant, Spring 2017

Improvisation is routinely taught on renowned MBA courses worldwide and this course is ideal for anyone who wants to enhance their presentation, collaboration or creative skills. Over six weeks you'll enjoy comedy improv with supportive new friends at the most prestigious arts and performance college in London.

Designed to inspire confidence and give a clear grounding in performance skills, this six-week course allows every participant to contribute imaginatively – without even trying. You'll learn how to be comfortable on stage by yourself and how to support the group and scene partners effortlessly – all in a safe, fun environment. Laughter and comedy come naturally from the truth of the scenes and games played. This course promotes the type of thinking that will engender problem-solving, creativity and charisma in contemporary business and performance.

“I really enjoyed it! Great teacher, lovely supportive classmates, brilliant format. A lot of fun.” Dom, participant, Autumn 2016

Sessions take place in a fantastic studio space at Goldsmiths College in New Cross. It's a practical, physical course but don't worry – absolutely no theatre, improv or comedy experience is necessary and there is no pressure 'to be funny'. Laughter and comedy come naturally from the truth of the scenes and the games played.

The sessions take place across six Wednesdays, starting 8 November. They're taught by DDG Improv’s Victoria Hogg. Vic gained her MA in Applied Theatre from Goldsmiths in 2016 and has been taught most recently by godfather of modern impro Keith Johnstone and by various schools including iO West, UCB, Second City, Monkey Toast, Spontaneity Shop, The Nursery Theatre and Hoopla. Vic is an applied theatre practitioner in socially engaged fields and runs improvisation-for-business sessions through her company The Offer Bank.
