Beginners Comedy Improv: Arts, Business and Beyond

This six-week course will challenge you while you create hilarious scenes with new friends. Designed to inspire greater confidence and give a clear grounding in performance skills, the sessions push every participant to contribute imaginatively without even trying.

No performance experience is necessary and there is no pressure 'to be funny'. Laughter and comedy come naturally from the truth of the scenes and games played. You'll learn how to be comfortable solo on stage and how to support the group and scene partners effortlessly.

Sessions take place in a great studio space at Goldsmiths College in New Cross. The six-week course will stretch you to become a confident, creative and imaginative participant and collaborator. It's a practical, physical course but don't worry - absolutely no theatre, improv or comedy experience is necessary and there is no pressure 'to be funny'. Laughter and comedy come naturally from the truth of the scenes and the games played.

You'll learn how to be comfortable on stage solo and how effortlessly to support the group and your scene partners in an extremely supportive and fun way. This course promotes the type of thinking that engenders problem-solving, creativity and charisma in contemporary business and performance.

The 2.5-hour sessions over six Wednesdays starting 24th May are taught by DDG Improv's Victoria Hogg. Victoria Hogg gained an MA (Merit) in Applied Theatre from Goldsmiths in 2016 and has five years' improv experience. She has trained with iO West, UCB, Second City, Monkey Toast, Spontaneity Shop and Hoopla, among others.
